Walking along the road -
I kicked a stone.
A stone so small -
My bare foot hardly noticed it at all.
The arrow struck him -
from behind.
It pierced the thought -
he had in mind.
It was a clear day . . .
when the raven fell to earth.
Flailing among the thistle . . .
He fell upon a rock.
A rock so big -
It shattered all I owned.
Leaves devoured him -
from above.
And smothered every dream -
of love.
It was a clear day . . .
when the raven fell to earth.
-------------------------------------
He floats between the tears . . .
with black-birds in his eyes
Among hearts of stone
that never hear his cries.
Drifting through the years . . .
of ever churning dark -
among the thorns . . .
of ever burning lies.
-------------------------------------
It was such a clear day . . .
when the raven . . .
died.
